The beach is a pantry. You just need to know where to look.
On this guided foraging tour we walk along Gjerrild Nordstrand, where pebble beach, beach ridges and coastal slopes meet – and where more edible plants grow than most people realise. Along the way we find whatever the season has to offer: perhaps the tender shoots of sea kale, sea sandwort and glasswort, wild onions on the beach ridges, or sea buckthorn and rose hips in the dunes.
Your guide knows both the plants and the place. You will learn to recognise the most important edible species, how to forage them without harming the population – and, not least, what to stay away from. Everything we find, we taste along the way.
The tour proceeds at a leisurely pace and requires no prior experience. Remember footwear that can handle stones and water, and clothing suited to the weather; a fresh wind often blows on the north coast.
